Last night, Lana Del Rey was the esteemed guest of honor at the Billboard Women in Music awards where she received the special Visionary Award, presented to her by Olivia Rodrigo. During her acceptance speech on-stage, Del Rey expressed her gratitude and joy, stating, “I don’t exactly have a long-term vision at all, but if you were curious, I am very, very happy.” She also touched on the cultural shift towards self-expression and authenticity, remarking, “When I released my first album 14 years ago, the waters were not quite as warm; I’m really happy for everyone who feels like it’s a wonderful time in the culture to be themselves and express themselves. It didn’t feel that way in 2008.”

Before the ceremony, Del Rey graced the red carpet in a unique and fitting outfit, showcasing her signature love for vintage-inspired fashion. She wore a stunning yellow Zimmermann dress from the label’s resort 2023 collection, which was made of a sheer paisley fabric and adorned with bunched fabrics resembling flower petals. The high neckline and long sleeves were reminiscent of a retro ’50s dress, giving off the classic housewife vibe from movies like Don’t Worry Darling or The Stepford Wives. Del Rey even completed the look with a bouffant hairstyle, adding to the throwback appeal.

This style choice comes as no surprise, as Del Rey has always been known for her affinity towards vintage fashion. In fact, she wore a similar dress in lilac and knee-length during a performance in California back in 2019. Del Rey’s fashion sense is a reflection of her music, which often references sounds of the past. It’s no wonder that she’s been dubbed the queen of sweet retro dresses – her version of the little black dress.
