Schiaparelli, a fashion house with a nearly century-old legacy, has made a recent comeback thanks to creative director Daniel Roseberry. The brand’s success has been bolstered by high-profile celebrity endorsements, including Lady Gaga wearing a Schiaparelli gown to President Joe Biden’s inauguration, Bella Hadid’s daring dress at the Cannes Film Festival, and Doja Cat’s sparkling red attire at the brand’s couture show. Launchmetrics data shows that Schiaparelli had the highest media impact value during Paris Couture Week, generating $44.5 million. This marks a four-time increase from the last couture season, with Kylie Jenner and Doja Cat contributing $18 million and $16.7 million, respectively.
Schiaparelli was founded by Elsa Schiaparelli in 1927 and became known for its Surrealism and eccentric fashions. While the brand didn’t achieve commercial success in the era where couture was king, it established itself as a prominent figure in fashion and was considered Coco Chanel’s biggest rival. Schiaparelli’s clothing collections were eventually shuttered in 1954, but she launched a company for her perfume licenses in 1957. In 2007, the business was acquired by Italian businessman Diego Della Valle, who began reviving the fashion side in 2013 with the appointment of Marco Zanini as creative director.
Bertrand Guyon succeeded Zanini in 2015 and oversaw the brand’s ready-to-wear and couture collections, drawing the favor of celebrities such as Celine Dion, Tilda Swinton, and Lady Gaga. Following Guyon’s departure in 2019, Roseberry took over as creative director and sparked the brand’s recent resurgence. Schiaparelli’s animal-head dresses and astrology-inspired designs have captivated the fashion world and caught the attention of political figures, with First Lady Jill Biden and former First Lady Michelle Obama wearing custom Schiaparelli ensembles.
Schiaparelli’s success has culminated in the brand’s first ready-to-wear collection under Roseberry’s direction, meant to showcase “who this Schiaparelli woman really is.” With Roseberry at the helm, Schiaparelli has established itself as a beloved and bold fashion brand for a new generation.
